If we want to live a joyful life of dependence on God, then we need to take a look at what we truly desire and what we are still holding onto. At the heart of this lesson lies a simple yet profound truth: the importance of going beyond mere words. When we say the words, "I want the peace of God," it is not about the words themselves but the sincerity with which we mean them. Jesus assures us that when our desire is genuine, there is no suffering that we cannot rise above. The journey toward the peace of God is really about wanting to know that God's Will and my will are the same: for perfect happiness. That is a very high prayer! It takes a lot of miraculous experiences to wash away that sense of fear of God dependency, because we have become so accustomed to taking care of ourselves personally. We need to be convinced by the Holy Spirit . We are just like little children that need to be convinced and be shown the way. And the more that happens—through miracles and by following our inner prompts—the deeper we realize that our dependence on God is actually aligned with the deepest prayer of our heart: to know that we are fully cared for. When we become more and more focused on what we truly want in our heart of hearts, then things start to shift and the world begins to reflect more and more witnesses. David: “I have one friend who's been praying and praying and praying and praying, and she just received an invitation from a friend of hers who said, ‘Here, come to this country, I'll buy you an air ticket, I welcome you with open arms, come and stay and live with me.’ And it was such a beautiful reflection of surrender, of letting go.” It is like that beautiful prayer in A Course in Miracle s, "Holy Spirit, decide for God for me." It is not a “personal me” that is making this decision. As we align with this prayer, we feel relaxed and things just show up as a reflection of this. Trust is the answer to all perceptual problems; it brings us the experience of present peace. Trust As the Answer to All Problems Trust is the answer to all perceptual problems; it brings us the experience of present peace. When we let go of trying to manage or control the things of time and space, and devote our mind totally to miracles, then we are in the experience that Jesus takes care of everything. He handles all the details of our lives. Deep down, we all want to come into an experience where we say, "Wow, that's easy. I just have to be joyful and peaceful and shine my light, and Jesus takes care of all the rest!" This is Jesus’ promise to us! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) Now, how do we come into this consistent experience of peace and trust? You can start the day by deciding not to make any decisions, not to try to understand anything. “But what am I focusing on?” You are focusing on the Holy Spirit's guidance now , without understanding what this guidance is for or what it is trying to resolve—it is a work of trust, and in that experience we realize that is the correction for all seeming problems. These kinds of experiences give us much faith to say, “I actually can bypass all problems, which are all my wrong beliefs, all the things that I think still need healing, absolutely all the problems in the perception world; I can bypass all of it because they are the past.” The more you rely on present trust, the more you can be in a state of relaxation. When you are looking at the past, you are not looking within. So, we can bypass all of it and just think, I trust You so much; You give me the correction today and in this moment, and that is what I'm going for. How Do We Walk The Walk of Trust? “The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.” (2 Samuel 22:3) Faith and trust can only be invested in what is real and true, which is what God has created: Spirit, Love, and Light. What God created is one and cannot be divided. Division and difference are only perceived in form and in time, and that is what the ego has made in place of Heaven. When we place our trust in form, we lose our way in our hearts and seem to suffer. To return to truth, therefore, we must place our trust 100% back in Spirit. Because of who we are, as God created us, and what we are, His Son, the call within us—the inner guide or the Holy Spirit—never leaves us. He is always helping and guiding us to remember our divine origin. We are the Light of the world, and nothing could be more certain or sure than this. What the ego made in form is illusory and cannot be trusted; idols will fall time and again when we place our trust in them, leaving us feeling bereft of God’s love—not in truth, but within the illusion of time and space. “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” (Psalms 62:8) Trusting the Holy Spirit involves surrendering our limited perceptions. Unlike the ego, which reinforces separation, the Holy Spirit bridges the gap between illusion and truth. It sees through the veil of form and recognizes the eternal Love and Light that underlie all existence. When we align with the Holy Spirit, forgiveness becomes possible. We forgive the illusions—the ego’s constructs—and restore the integrity of our mind. Listening to the Holy Spirit and following His guidance deepens our trust that Love is the only real choice. “A simple life of listening, trusting, and following will transfer the lesson of forgiveness to your entire perception” (David Hoffmeister). “How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.” (Psalms 36:7) Trust is essential to the forgiveness that transforms our consciousness. It shifts our focus from seeking happiness in external idols to finding it within our true connection with our Creator. “Trust in the Holy Spirit will continue to grow. No one can accept forgiveness without trust” (David Hoffmeister). With practice, we start to notice that trust does not take time; turning our mind to trust gives us immediate peace. This insight is pivotal, encapsulating the entire healing journey. Ultimately, we are healing our belief in the linearity of time, embracing the truth of the Holy Instant, and acknowledging our existence in God’s Eternal Now. “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” (Psalms 40:4) This walk of trust entails that we keep nothing hidden from the Holy Spirit, so whatever arises in our mind can be given over to Him instantaneously, without processing or trying to figure out. “Trust is the way to open the mind and release false concepts and idols“(David Hoffmeister). With a deepening trust in the Holy Spirit, we come to realize that we face no true problems; what we perceive as problems are merely the ego’s distorted presentations of reality. It is our choice to either heed these misrepresentations or to entrust everything to the Holy Spirit for reinterpretation. “Confidence and surety come with trust, and this is how you become aware that you are truly a miracle worker. Time is in your hands, so to speak, as you trust the Holy Spirit“(David Hoffmeister). “ But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.” (Psalms 73:28) The split in our mind arises when we perceive duality instead of unity at mind level. This duality stems from the intolerable fear, guilt, and shame associated with the hypothetical notion of separating from God to attain something else—something beyond everything. To cope with these overwhelming emotions, the mind conceives a projection of this guilt onto an imaginary “other.” This other becomes the repository of all projected hatred and malice. It becomes the imaginary enemy of the guilty mind, which we constantly try to overcome in our sleep. “Aligned with the Holy Spirit, you no longer have an enemy to “overcome.” For the light has come” (David Hoffmeister). “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. Living the Spirit’s purpose comes from forgiveness and awakening. Practical Living from the Spirit's Purpose The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Joy, and joy comes from living the Spirit's purpose of forgiveness. What is the definition of forgiveness? Simply seeing the false as false. To become the witness-self, to see that you are the dreamer of the world of dreams. You come to realize that it is impossible to be impacted or conflicted by something outside yourself because the dreamer of the dream realizes that there must be another purpose for the dream. Forgiveness is this new purpose. "Forgiveness is the learning goal of our curriculum. We have to allow the miracles to transfer the training to everything and everyone. " The first phase toward living the Spirit's purpose is a phase of dismantling and undoing: clearing the mind of all of its dark cobwebs and false learnings. What are these false learnings based on? They are based on the ego's belief system of a false personality self and everything that surrounds the personality self. All of that is false ego learning that was made to take the place of Love, God, and Oneness. This whole cosmos is false learning, like the layers of an onion placed over its core. As we go through spiritual awakening, we go through the peeling of this onion, letting go of the false beliefs and learnings, to come down to a pristine state of just Beingness. This process of forgiveness is initially one of unlearning and undoing, of dismantling. As the mind is being unwound from these false beliefs, it can feel very disconcerting to the ego, like a destruction of the ego's thought system. As we dive deeper into Jesus' teachings, the goal is to open our heart and mind to the miracle. To allow ourselves to be used in miraculous ways, as a miracle worker, and to strengthen what is real and true—that is Spirit! It is not the body, it is not the personality self. This dismantling makes way for our Christ Self and the humble statement of the truth, of "I am as God created me." All our specific problems were made to cover over the one single problem which is the belief in separation. When we really see this for what it is, we are also open to the correction that it has been resolved. Everything has been solved! What is left is a sense of peace, happiness, and joy. That is the natural state for a perfect Child of God. The topic of real choice is about choosing between two states of mind. Where Is the Real Choice? When we explore the topic of “real choice,” we are talking about choosing between two states of mind. Inevitably though we will start speaking about guidance because guidance helps to consistently remind us of purpose, the only real choice. Following guidance becomes very natural as we accept everything that is given. The real choice is not between “this or that” in form, but rather a choice in purpose. Through this acceptance, we experience that we are being carried along by God and that everything we truly need for our awakening is provided. In order for us to have this experience—of being in the flow with the Holy Spirit’s guidance—we need to clear our beliefs. While this clearing happens through practical, day-to-day guidance, it isn't something we “do”—it comes from the prayer and desire of our heart. “Once we give our will over to the divine Will of God, we start to see that the only time we experience conflict is when we want something different than what is happening. If your prayer is pure and you just want to live in God’s Will, He’ll take care of all the details.” —Jason Warwick St. Augustine’s famous saying is a beautiful reminder of this: “Love and do what you will.” The focus is on our state of mind or state of being (“love”), and the effect (“do”) comes after. Our actions follow from our thoughts and beliefs, and we can shift the focus of our choice—the real choice—to our state of mind instead of being on the body and behavior. The Kingdom of Heaven Play Video Facebook Twitter Pinterest Tumblr Copy Link Link Copied “Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21) Jesus knew that the Kingdom of Heaven was not a separate place that would appear here or there, but that it was within, as a State of Mind that was freely available to all. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17) The word "repent" simply means to change one's mind. Jesus is asking us to give up our old ideas of Heaven being far away. It is not some place far in the clouds, nor a place that we will go to someday in the future. Rather, he says it is "at hand", meaning that it is very close (like a hand). Freeing Your Mind From Judgment Jesus also spoke to us of the "plank" (like a beam or a log) in our eye that blocks our vision and distorts our view of others. He asked why we are so focused on other people's blocks instead of focusing on our own: "And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:3-6) Forgiveness is Paramount! For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." (Matthew 7:1-2) When we judge others, we inevitably feel guilty because we haven't removed the "plank" from our own eye. On some level, therefore, we know that are judgment cannot be accurate. Jesus taught that we must first remove the plank from our own eye, and only then can we be truly helpful to our brother. He clearly was not teaching that we should judge others; on the contrary, he taught that we must forgive, over and over and over...
